People – Employee Health & Well-Being
Whether it's through our safe workplaces or wellness initiatives, the culture of Perrigo has always been to care for employees and encourage them to look out for each other. With more than 13,000 people now employed at Perrigo, and operations in 39 countries, maintaining a supportive culture has become more important than ever. Whether this support is provided through competitive benefits packages, development opportunities, inclusion and appreciation of differences, or being good corporate citizens, Perrigo both wants to be seen as the employer of choice, as well as a place where our employees are proud to work.
As such, Perrigo offers a number of competitive benefits and incentives. In addition to what is included in this report, also see perrigocareers.com for additional information.
Promoting Employee Health and Wellness
Since 2004, Perrigo has offered its employees formalized wellness programs, as well as the support and encouragement to stay healthy and safe. This includes, but is not limited to, annual biometric screenings, an onsite wellness center in Allegan or gym membership reimbursement, education and coaching, and sponsorships of fitness related events. As a result, recent biometric screenings have shown Perrigo employees in the U.S. maintain, on average, healthier cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure than the U.S. average.
Perrigo recognizes that safety and health are personal as well as job-related. Personal wellness programs are available for all U.S. locations and we are actively expanding these programs to locations outside the U.S.
Occupational Health and Safety
Promoting healthy living is a key objective; however, Perrigo recognizes the largest contribution we can make to employee health is to provide a work atmosphere free of immediate or long-term safety hazards, ranging from slips and falls to the long-term damage created by poor ergonomics.
2015 was a record year for employee safety, with a Total Recordable Rate (TRR) of 1.43 across all of global Perrigo. This is down 22% over the previous year, and is a new historic low for the company. In particular, Perrigo's Allegan operations, the company's largest site, saw its OSHA total recordable rate drop from 2.3 in 2014, to 1.6 in 2015, a 30% year-over-year improvement and significantly lower than the pharmaceutical industry average TRR of 1.9.
Talent Management and Diversity
In addition to employee health and well-being, identifying, acquiring, retaining and developing talent continues to be a key strategy and commitment for Perrigo. This commitment has resulted in a high rate of hires and promotions from within our own ranks, in addition to attracting some of the best minds in the industry from around the world.
With an ever increasing geographic presence, Perrigo also remains more committed than ever to promoting diversity and inclusion companywide.
Recognizing Veterans, Active and Retired
Perrigo believes the men and women who dedicate their lives and service to their country should be thanked, appreciated and recognized for their unique skills and talents that only military service can provide. That is why we have created a Veteran's Steering Team to help guide activities and policies around veterans, as well as build awareness and education about veteran skill sets.
Corporate Compliance and Governance
Guided by Perrigo's Code of Conduct and Core Values, and supported by a global network of over 50 compliance coordinators and officers, Perrigo takes a proactive approach to compliance and governance across all global areas and functions.
This robust approach nabbed Perrigo the Best Compliance and Ethics Program (Large Cap) in 2014, and additional nominations since, for the strength and scope of our governance, compliance, ethics and risk management across the entire organization.
Protecting Human Rights in the Supply Chain
Respecting the human rights of our employees is a core value and one that we expect our business partners to share. As articulated in Perrigo’s Supplier Code of
Conduct, Perrigo is committed to doing business with ethical companies. This means, ensuring that all products manufactured or services conducted on behalf of Perrigo are done so in a manner that does not violate any law, risk the health or wellbeing of the person involved, or violate, whether direct or indirect, any human rights. This commitment includes, but is not limited to:
- Ensuring safe working conditions for all factories involved with Perrigo production
- Prohibiting the use of any child or forced labor
- Seeking to eliminate discrimination and exploitation of all forms from the supply chain
- Strict adherence to local labor, safety and environmental laws and regulations
- Protecting Perrigo and customer brand reputation
As a sign of this commitment, Perrigo continues to support the Ethical and Social Compliance (E&SC) Program, which abides by the provisions of the CA Transparency Act, as well as customer standards.
