Perrigo Charitable Foundation donates a total of $90,000 to homeless services in Allegan County

Press release

DUBLIN, Ireland and Allegan, Michigan – April 29, 2019 – Perrigo is making lives better in Allegan County, Michigan by donating a total of $90,000 to two different organizations that support homelessness needs in Allegan County: The Homeless Assistance Program and Allegan Homeless Solutions.  The Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation donated $40,000 to the Allegan County Community Mental Health Services program and $50,000 to Allegan Homeless Solutions.

The gift to Allegan County Community Mental Health Services supports the Homeless Assistance Program. The funding will support a full-time case manager, who does many tasks including homeless outreach at area campgrounds and forests to educate those in need about services that are available to them.

Mark Witte, Executive Director of Allegan County Community Mental Health Services, said, “We have a lot of HUD funds available to serve people who are homeless; unfortunately, those dollars can’t be spent on staffing. Your support of this case manager will let us maximize the use of those funds.”

The gift to the Allegan Homeless Solutions program helps to provide “gap” funding that federal programs don’t cover, such as temporary housing, utility assistance, and food.

“The simple mission of Allegan Homeless Solutions is house the homeless. We help remove the barriers faced by the homeless as we get them out of the harsh elements and into a safe and appropriate environment,” shared AHS Board President Theresa Bray.

This is the first time that the Perrigo Foundation has supported the organizations, which is allowing for greater service to underserved families in Allegan County.

Tom Farrington, EVP and Chief Information Officer, President of the Perrigo Foundation says, “It is important for Perrigo to support the local community where we operate, especially some of our most vulnerable populations in Allegan County. It is our privilege to assist organizations that are aligned to provide better outcomes for housing and food insecurity, that in turn improves the health and education systems for the entire community.”
