DUBLIN, Ireland and Allegan, Michigan – May 2, 2019 – Families in Allegan have two new engaging learning centers for their children at their local library. The Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation proudly donated $130,000 to Allegan District Library for the creation of the Perrigo Learning Lab and the Perrigo STREAM Lab. Thursday May 2, at 6 p.m., the Allegan District Library will have an official ribbon cutting and hold an open house for the public to tour the labs.
Perrigo’s $130,000 gift last year, combined with millage voted on by the public, made the full renovation of the library possible. Perrigo’s gift supported the creation of the Perrigo Learning Lab for young children, and the Perrigo STREAM Lab for teens.
Tom Farrington, EVP & CIO, President of the Perrigo Foundation says, “Perrigo’s North American Base of Operations is in Allegan, Michigan, and many of our Perrigo employees live and work locally. Supporting the library expansion and the Perrigo Learning Lab is an investment in the community in which we share. We believe the impact of this investment benefits our children’s education, which will pay future dividends to them personally and the Allegan community.”
The Perrigo Learning Lab will give kids the opportunity to engage with virtual reality, sensory materials, and interactive activities. The STREAM Lab stands for science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math, and aims to help teens grow in these areas of study through interactive technology and learning tools.
Ryan Deery, Director Allegan District Library says the staff and community were honored to receive the gift, “Perrigo has been an incredible partner in this project and wanted to help foster more engaging learning opportunities for our area youth and for that, we are incredibly grateful.”
The library has been under construction for 16 months, and it was kept open during most of the project. The Allegan District Library serves more than 80,000 people a year.
