Elke De Clercq is our Business Unit Director for Green North within the Green Division. Below she shares with us some insights about working within this stand alone unit of Perrigo and she shares some information about our current Marketing Manager vacancy.
Can you tell me a little bit about Oce Bio? Oce Bio, also called the Green Division, is a stand alone unit under the Perrigo group. The Green Division focuses on natural and biological food supplements and cosmetics. Our mission is to make lives better by bringing natural selfcare products to the market. There is a growing trend towards naturalness/bio and also a growing trend to take care of your own health and well-being. Our brands fit perfectly within this growing trend. As a stand alone unit we can define our own course, but we also benefit from the synergies with Perrigo (training opportunities, career progression, expertise of specific departments such as Quality, HR, IT).
Does working in this environment differ from your previous experience? Yes and no. I have been working for Oce Bio for 4 years now. Previously I worked in different marketing & sales roles within various FMCG companies. What is similar is that we focus on building our brands and the business by maintaining a strong focus on the consumer. We always focus on how our brands can help improve the life of our consumer. What is different are the channels we operate in. We are an omni-channel business in Benelux with customers in nature/bio stores, drugstores, e-commerce, and pharmacy. Each channel is unique which makes it really interesting and challenging for us!
How would you describe your team culture? At Oce Bio, as well as at Perrigo, there is a great entrepreneurial culture. Everyone has their own responsibilities, freedom within their role, and is encouraged take initiative and to come up with new ideas to bring the business forward. It is always great to see the ownership that everybody takes, even beyond the specifics of their own role. As a team we can count on each other and we go the extra mile together. At Oce Bio everybody matters and each of us has the chance to make a difference.
You are currently recruiting for a Marketing Manager to join your team. What can a perspective employee expect when joining this role and function? The Marketing Manager will have a direct impact on the business and the brands. You will have the opportunity to set strategic directions for the brands and to make things happen. It is a challenging and broad marketing role, touching upon all marketing aspects (conceptual thinking, strategy, innovation/product development, advertising & promotion (TV, digital, …) and this in a company that helps people to support their own health and well-being. As Marketing Manager you will coach, motivate and develop a team of 3 people and you will be part of the management team. You will also be part of the international Perrigo marketing network in which learnings, best practices, and ideas are shared.
What does someone need to be successful within this role of Marketing Manager? As Marketing Manager, you need to be a people manager who will support and develop the team on a daily basis. It is vital to be a good communicator, as you work with all departments and external parties. Of course as a marketeer, you must have a passion for brands and experience in building consumer driven brands. As we focus on natural products and selfcare, you need to have a genuine interest in ‘health’. Being an entrepreneurial company, the marketing manager should bring an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to work independently, a great sense of ownership, and a hands-on mentality!
