Malik Gueye joined Perrigo Belgium in February of this year as a Digital Marketeer. This is an exciting time as we are on a journey of Digital Acceleration! Find out why Malik joined and how things are going so far!
What attracted you to join Perrigo? I would say firstly it was the opportunity to learn how a digital strategy fits in the overall strategy of large brands. Gaining a better understanding into the positioning of a brand was also something that started to trigger me. The opportunity to work with experienced colleagues with different backgrounds was also very important to me. On top of all of that, the unique perks such as an onsite fitness facility did not hurt either!
What made you think the role with Perrigo ticked more boxes than roles in other companies? The fact that I would be able to deep-dive in a challenging industry while still working with multiple established brands was definitely unique. The global scope and having the possibility to learn from other markets was also very appealing.
What were you most excited about before you joined us? Meeting the team and getting to know my future colleagues was a very exciting prospect, even if it was only virtually due to Covid! I was curious about the way the digital activities were organised so it has been an interesting start!
What has surprised you about the job in the first 30 days? The scope of responsibility surprised me during the first month. I was able to dive into our accounts and apply my previous experience to try and look for better ways of working. My team was very welcoming from the outset - starting with the application and recruitment process and I think this made the transition once I started very smooth. I was also pleasantly surprised by the way working from home was facilitated - appropriate desk and material set up! All in all I found the onboarding process very efficient.
How have you found the experience starting directly from home? Even though I haven’t met all my colleagues in real life yet, I feel as if I got to know a lot of them well already. The fact that there were also some informal occasions to get to know people, such as virtual breakfast meetings, has really helped a lot!
Why would you recommend Perrigo to other potential joiners? You’re encouraged to take initiative and challenge current ways of working. This gives you a real sense of ownership. Besides that, you’re working in an interesting industry with its own specific challenges that push you to think outside of the box. The team is motivated and helpful which makes it an environment in which you can keep on learning.
What is your favourite thing to do outside of work? During my spare time I like catching up with friends and enjoy being active by playing football or running!
