OJ

Owen Jacobs joined Perrigo Vermont at the beginning of 2022 as Maintenance Manager. Below he shares some information about joining his team and what you can expect from a career with Perrigo!

Can you tell me a little bit about your team? I joined the Perrigo Nutritional’s Vermont Maintenance Department as the Maintenance Manager at the start of the year. The team is a highly skilled, diverse, 40+ person group that works collaboratively to drive equipment and facility improvements while operating the utility plant. Our focus is improving site reliability, minimizing downtime and driving long term equipment improvements.

Does working in this environment differ from your previous experience? The great part of Perrigo Vermont is the ability to have a direct impact on site performance. My previous experience in the energy industry was at much larger sites. Perrigo Vermont has much more of a small town feel where folks know each other, are known and respected for the work they do and have a direct line of sight of how their work improves the lives of their co-workers and our customers.

How would you describe the Maintenance Team culture? When I started at Perrigo the team reviewed important attributes for a strong team. This included having fun working together, trusting one another, being dependable, speaking up if we don’t agree, challenging the status quo and always trying to understand other perspectives to learn and grow. It also included commitments about how we troubleshoot and work to improve every day, including getting to root cause and utilizing data to support path forward.

How would you describe the leadership style within the Maintenance Department?
Maintenance leadership focus is about empowering our experts to seamlessly complete our work and continuous improvement in everything we do. This includes development and training for all team members, understanding and adapting maintenance solutions to the end users needs, identifying and improving the facility we work in and simplifying and streamlining our work processes.

You are looking for new colleagues – Mechanical Planners - What can a prospective employee expect when joining this role and function? The Maintenance Department is looking to add Mechanical Planners to drive long term, sustained improvements in our preventative maintenance culture.Improving planning and inventory are central to maximizing equipment in-service time and these team members will be critical to furthering our reliability improvements.

What do you think someone needs, to be successful within this role? The successful candidates for these positions will have a relentless focus on improving the day to day and long-term work planning that is completed at the site. These roles require collaborative team members that take a data driven approach to prioritize schedules and develop job plans, ensure accuracy and integrity of resource levelling, evaluate equipment data to set preventative maintenance tasks and intervals, and demonstrate excellent time management skills.

What is your favourite part about the Perrigo Vermont location? The best part about working at Perrigo Vermont is the people and opportunities! Everyone brings new ideas and different perspectives, is willing to find innovative ways to improve the facility and goes out of their way to assist all team members
